EMDR practitioners are often required to complete cultural competency or cultural diversity training as part of their graduate degrees and as part of their license renewal. They may not have considered, however, how EMDR Therapy is not only an evidence-based and trauma-informed care approach but also a culturally competent form of therapy. This self-directed, interactive e-learning course helps the EMDR practitioner make connections and become a more culturally competent clinician. When given basic constructs and definitions of trauma-informed care, cultural competency, the Adaptive Information Processing model, and EMDR Therapy overall, the participant will be able to demonstrate and apply culturally and linguistically appropriate strategies and techniques with case conceptualizations.
Upon completion of this online course, participants will be able to:
- Apply at least one basic concept of cultural competency.
- Analyze the relationship between cultural competency and trauma-informed care.
- Describe the integration of trauma-informed care, cultural competency, and the AIP model.
- Identify at least one culturally appropriate strategy while using EMDR Therapy protocols.
