CE Information — Integrating Somatic Approaches into EMDR Therapy: For Simple, Complex, and Attachment Trauma – October 2023

COURSE ABSTRACT:

Integrating Somatic Approaches into EMDR Therapy: For Simple, Complex, and Attachment Trauma is an advanced training designed for EMDR Therapists interested in learning somatic strategies to resolve clients’ traumas more effectively. The training includes lecture, demonstration, and practicums for both theoretical knowledge and clinical practice. Somatic therapies emphasize a “bottom up” approach to resolve trauma, utilizing mindfulness and non-verbal implicit memories–behavioral patterns and responses. Day One of this workshop focuses on integrating somatic strategies into each of the 8 phases of EMDR Therapy. Day two provides more extensive strategies to work with more complex trauma and attachment trauma. Participants will gain skills to enhance EMDR therapy through somatic processes.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Identify a client’s arousal system and the client’s body’s patterned responses to arousal.
  2. Identify and utilize two somatic-based resources to assist clients in managing their arousal system.
  3. Demonstrate integration of four somatic based resources.
  4. Describe two somatic approaches to developing a Target Assessment.
  5. Demonstrate somatic based cognitive interweaves to maintain dual awareness.
  6. Identify four skills for under-accessing, over-accessing, and “stuck” processing during Phase 4 using somatic-based strategies.
  7. Explain integration of IFS and ego state approaches with complex trauma using somatic based methodology.
  8. Recognize the clinician’s own somatic responses and arousal patterns through exercises interwoven throughout the training.
  9. Incorporate self-resourcing techniques to assist in working with challenging clients.
  10. Demonstrate specific somatic strategies for working with simple, complex and attachment trauma.
