CE Information – The Other Side of Heroes: First Responders and Chronic Pain

“The Other Side of Heroes: First Responders and Chronic Pain” is an advanced course for fully trained EMDR therapy clinicians to explore First Responder culture, their responses to physical and emotional pain, and how EMDR therapy can assist this population with chronic pain. Effective ways to introduce EMDR therapy to this population and strategies to help First Responders deal with chronic pain issues are presented. This two-hour OnDemand course is delivered with multiple case examples by two expert trainers of EMDR therapy—Dr. Michelle Gottlieb and Dr. Deborah Silveria.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify at least three aspects specific to First Responders’ culture and personality.
  2. Summarize how chronic pain is conceptualized through the lens of EMDR therapy as a maladaptive memory network.
  3. Explain how First Responders’ physical pain is impacted by emotional pain.
  4. Identify at least one effective way to introduce EMDR therapy and how it would be helpful for this population.
  5. Recall three different strategies to help First Responders deal with chronic pain issues.
