In the past, the psychotherapy community often relegated the use of EMDR Therapy to PTSD and other obviously trauma-related conditions. But we're happy to say that's changing. It's time to talk about Psychosis and EMDR Therapy.
Recent research has challenged the belief that EMDR Therapy is not effective and may be damaging to people who experience co-morbid conditions of PTSD and Psychosis.
In her new advanced course with EMDR Professional Training™, Mary E. Eason, Ph.D. reviews and discusses the recent research on effective use of EMDR Therapy to treat psychosis and outline interventions that are effective in decreasing the impact of trauma on individuals that experience psychosis. Dr. Mary E. Eason focuses this training on improving the participant's ability to effectively assess psychotic symptoms, determine if the client is ready for reprocessing, understand if these symptoms are directly or indirectly related to traumatic experiences, and create EMDR therapy treatment plans that will provide a structure for interventions.
After discussing recent research on the effectiveness of EMDR Therapy with individuals with trauma and psychosis, workshop participants learn how to effectively gather detailed information regarding a client's psychotic symptoms to aid in the development of an EMDR therapy treatment plan and utilize the most effective EMDR therapy intervention given the impact of the client's psychosis on functioning.
In addition, workshop participants learn to identify when a client struggling with psychosis is ready for reprocessing and how to help prepare the client for reprocessing. Dr. Eason guides participants in using the 8-phase Standard Protocol and how best to determine progress in treatment.
